I have an 88 Quadracer 250 and i recently rebuilt the top end and whenever i start it up it idles VERY high and when i pull in the clutch it winds out and sometimes it idles so high that the quad drives itself it is a very annoying problem and i would appreciate any help.

Either you need to adjust your idle screw out so your slide goes down or adjust your throttle cable.

Are you using the choke. It could be running a little lean at first.

Shaggy - sounds like you have an air leak somewhere. Just a suggestion, but check your reed cage gasket and boot. Might be a hole there or somewhere else. I am assuming it idled OK before the top end?

Yep, think it could have something to do with having the wrong head gasket because now that i look at it it dosent look like the right one?

well try ner up and spray either around all the gaskets and seals and if it revs up when you spray a particular area then you have an air leak there.

Also make sure to check the Air Screw, sometimes they can vibrate loose and fall out causing the revving you mentioned. If its in place, screw it all the way in then back it out 1 1/2 turns. This should give you a starting point for further adjustment. If this aint it, it definitely could be a leaking gasket causing a lean condition. Be on the lookout, Quadracers are notorious for blowing cylinder base gaskets just beneath the reed cage at the base of the cylinder.
