350 miles-vinson brakes shot
#1
yep, already had to change the backs. metal on metal at 350 miles, still under warranty too. Dealer said get out your wallet.....
He says the fronts are probably bad too and thought they looked thin.

You guys are scaring me! I just bought my wife an '03 Vinson Automatic w/ 385 miles on it. I never even thought to look at the brakes, given the low miles. Do the brakes squeal when the pads get low? My Prairie 650 has almost 900 miles and my pads are still good. Honda Rancher w/ 1300 miles and still on original brakes. I'll be checking the Vinson tonight!

Problem is, as the dealer says, the integrated floorboards, because people have a tendancy to ride the brake because of the location.
If they are bad, do them yourself, it's really easy. 40 bucks for the back pads, but to take the rear tire off, just a 17mm socket, and then two bolts requiring a 12mm socket to get the rear caliber off.
Mine made really bad grinding noise, and it was weird, because one day they were fine, the next they were grinding. metal on metal.

i've just replaced my rear brakes too. i bought the high quality pads for $30 each wheel. $90 in all. the fonts are not bad yet so i didn't change them. if you ride in mud and sand alot, and ride the brakes alot, you will be changing them quite often. i have 300 miles on mine. like vinson5 said, they are easy to change.

Most of your stopping power is up front. So use your front brakes more and the rear pads should last longer. And the Prairie rear brake is a completely different style so you can't compare the two. My wifes Vinson has 150 miles on it and the brakes still look new. And she rides it just as fast as the rest of you. She has to keep up with me

I got 650 miles out of my rears before they started to squeal and my front brakes are still at 50% pad. I put most of my miles on in the Hatfield an McCoy trails. Those trails are the most treacherous trails in the east and are very hard on breaking systems.
