electrical problem on LT500
Any mechanics out there? Bought an 87 quadzilla which didnt run. After checking it out, found had no spark. Using a test light I checked the wires coming from the stator assembly, the only wire I had power on was the lighting coil wire (which isnt being used). Replaced the primary coil in the stator, and then I had power to that wire (still no spark). Replaced the coil pickup, and had the correct ohms on that wire. Still no spark, but after changing the coil pickup I re-checked the primary coil wire with a test light, and it was glowing like a roman candle (I thought it was too bright). 2 minutes later I rechecked the primary coil wire again and had no power. Almost like it blew out the minute I plugged it back into the CDI unit. Anyone who knows any info on this it would be greatly appreciated. Only thing I can think is that the CDI box has a short which blew the primary coil and thats why its not getting spark. THanks again!- Ross H.

Hmm, I'm not much help here as I've never had to trouble shoot an LT (I know, kind of amazing isn't it)... Sounds llike it could be the CDI... I can't really see it smoking the stator coil, but stranger things have happened.. All it would take is to short the insulation in the windings, and poof....
