Keep saving. I gave 1400$ for mine and ATVs are more expensive in FL. If your saving at any significant rate, then your almost there. They tend to go cheaper on Ebay then in the cycle trader. Watch for someone within driving distance that will not deliver and therefor has a limited market. Thats how I got mine.

Luta i picked mine up for 1500 and it runs great, its got pipes, nerf bars, brand new razr tires. The kid even gave me two boxes of spare parts, 2 new sets of rear tires, 1 set of almost new holeshot rears, 1 set of used bandit fronts, and an extra set of alum. rims (front and back). You live in the Tri-State area (PA,NY,NJ) Try the papershop
papershop
They come out every week and lt250r's always go cheap... they uasually run but expect to do alot of Maintenance work at first. I spent about 10 hours sifting through the boxes of parts and replacing missing bolts, tightening the motor which i could move by hand, but considering i only spent $6 for three main jets and it runs great it was worth the cash
And i only got it about a three weeks ago! So if you keep an eye on the papershop you'll probaly find one being sold every 2-3 weeks

i have an 88 i will let go without plastic....i have put a new top end .060 over, new pivot works on front of swing arm, new counter balancer bearings, brand new steering stem,runs..but here is the downfall. it has a vibration from the engine?
another down fall is i am in NE ct
but i would let it go for 1300.00 no plastic.

Your thinking of a big bore motor. Being .060" over just means that cylinder has been cleaned up by removing a very small amount of material. It won’t affect reliability.
A big bore motor has a larger sleeve (cylinder wall) put in it to increase the displacement a lot. A motor that is .060" over is actually only a few cc's bigger than stock.
