I don't know if that would be a good beginner quad. I lean more towards not. Come on guys don't be like some of the hatin 400ex guys that rag on z's. Those 400ex's ain't very far at all behind are z's in stock form. Reverse hurts them but other than that they'll run kind of close with a z especially through three gears. Now for your question a 400ex is easy to ride if you're used to a quad and a clutch but a beginner could get hurt on it. If you're an older guy or gal I might recommend it because you won't be as crazy as the young folks. A young guy gets on an ex and guns the throttle will be on their a** in about two seconds. An ex wheelies better than a z in my opinion, lower first gear or more torque in first or somethin. Any quad that goes over 60mph shouldn't be a beginner quad. I might try a z250 or a tamer 250x. A 300x is also a great beginner quad. I'd probably go z250 though, I don't think it's a clutch is it. That would help you get used to how a quad feels and handles without worrying about using a clutch. Then start riding someone's clutch every now and again and work your way up to an awesome ltz400 suzuki.

Oh, I forgot to ask why didn't you post this in the honda forum. There some knowedeble people over there too that know a lot about honda's strengths and weakeneses. My answer is pretty accurate and non biased I think. I don't want no one to get hurt because of me telling you to get something you can't handle. Good luck with whatever you buy. If you get something bigger, baby it for a while before you get brave.

It depends how old the person riding it is because a 400ex has some power and for a person that
isnt very old they can wreck pretty easy not having very much control over the 400cc quad, a person a little bit older id say more around 15 at least and up might be able to handle it better for a first bike.
