The gasket is shorter/thinner (I guess some people look at it different). Anyways, it makes the combustion chamber smaller. Its something like plaining the head on a 2-stroke. I hope you understand this cause I'm not sure I explained it thoroughly enough.

something like 12 to 1,it would be the same as the drz has.
I have not done this yet, but that is what I read.

Is the quad stroke the same as the DRZ?? If you alter the compression, won't the cams then be wrong??

yeah its pretty much the same. same bore same stroke, difference is DRZ has more advanced timing and high compression. shouldn't mess with the valves, still be stock bore and everything

Yes the DRZ base gasket is thinner than the Z's, and bumps compression up to 12.2:1, and only costs around $25. Some would say, "Well why would anyone want a high comp. piston, when they can get the same compression much cheaper?" The answer to that is internal mass. A lighter piston revs faster than the stocker. But I say if you don't have the $$$, but are a decent mexhanic and have the owners manual...go for it!

Oh, and one more thing...forgot to say that there are 2 types of DRZ dirt bikes, "E" and "S", one of them has 12.2:1 compression, while the other has the 11.3:1 compression (same as Z). I'll do a little research to find out which bike you want to get the base gasket from (because I forgot!), otherewise you will do all this for nothing!

Alright...found out it is the DRZ "E" model that you want. Good luck!
