Z400 vs YFZ450... heres the deal...

I had the baffle back in the pipe so that i could ride at the track behind my uncles house he would not let me ride without it because he hates too much noise .. after about 2 hours i noticed that my pant leg had been rubbing on the head pipe and it had burned a hole completely through , when i noticed it i lifted my pant leg to check my boot and the leather and plastic part of my boot was blazing HOT.. i looked down at the exhaust header and it was Starting to turn cherry red from the head itself till about 12-13 inches down the pipe , i have heard a few people complaining about the pipe heating up but i never noticed it, but this is the first time i have had the baffle back in it since i bought it .. i took it out after about 3 hours of riding and i still didnt notice it before .. I bet i could light my cigarette with the head pipe after about an hour with the baffle in. the area i was riding at was kinda small and there was not much room to get alot of speed so the air flow to the pipe was limited. That could have been the other reason it heated up so bad

I really started to notice my Z heat up by my leg when trail riding for an hour or so. It was dusty, and rocky, trees everywhere, wasnt very fast at all, it starts feeling uncomfortable, but it would never burn a hole in my pant leg.... lol, thats funny though...

I took the baffle off today and just kinda putted around .. and what do ya know ? ( No more MR.Flaming pants ).. LOL . That baffle really keeps alot of heat in the pipe.. i'll be switching to an HMF here pretty soon hopefully that will make it run even cooler..
( SRK399) Don't you wear riding boots ? ... because i never noticed any heat from my Z ( With or without boots ) and i ran Super High Octane Fuel because of the bore & piston kit i had in it , not to say that would have made it run that much hotter. .. besides the head pipe on the z does not stick out quite as far as the yfz does

Not always, if Ill be out fo rthe day Ill throw on my gear, but usually I just wear my helmet and gloves (as far as protection goes), and sometime a chest protector. Im usually in and out of the house, off and on the bike, so its a pain taking it all off and putting it back on.
Today, while our MX track was getting redone, I just motored around, testing the jumps, not really getting on it too much, its pretty damn dusty down there, my fan was on almost the whole time, thats when I felt the heat. I was wearing jeans and just regular shoes... not the smartest.

Up here in Alaska, my fan hardly ever turns on. The winters suck though, -40 is just too damm cold to ride. I bought a snowboard today to take away my non-riding blues this winter, though. Happy trails to all, and good night.

Won't know for a few more months. Even if it did it would take for ever for that cold-hearted b!tch to warm up! Thank God for a heated garage, or it would just sit for 3 months without being ran, which seems to cause problems when they just sit for that long.

yea my R has those problems, ill let it sit for a while, try and start it up a while later and nope, get it started and it breaks down....i think they go through pms when u dont ride them.
