hey "JEFFP" u forgot to add tires. the right tires make ALL the difference in a drap race. hell u could beat a rappy with an R1 engine in it, if his tires are bald and your STOCK. lol aiight just thought id help some

second, the z400 is great for trails, and thats about it. Its a weak design that WILL break. the motors are good but the rest of the quad is built a little on the week side.
NOW if your do anything other than trail rideing, sell the z400 , buy a honda or yammy....
or you can just replace the subframe WHEN it breaks
replace the frame WHEN the shock mounts fail
replace the swing arm WHEN it breaks
replace the axel WHEN it bends
replace the stearing stem WHEN it bends.
Plus you can put in about $3000 dollars in just mods to make it keep up with the yzf....
oh and dont forget , when you add the extra HP, you will have to do something about swing arm fully rebounding and staying to buck you off.
HOWS THAT FOR BIAS? if you think IM wrong then it obviouse you dont read up about YOUR own quad!!!!

I'd have to say if you put a 450 kit in each machine and any mod you could do that is legal for racing it will be very very close. You can only add 11cc to the Yammy, but 51cc to the Z400 or 41cc if the atva limit is 440cc and all the porting you want to either and slap on an FCR on the Z. The Z may start out w/ alot less hp, but will have alot more potential to easily keep up w/ the YFZ.. Same goes for the chassis. Yes the Z will cost more to mod, but will come down to the rider at the checkers.. It's like saying an R1 can't compete w/ the Mighty GSXR1000. It can, it will just cost more!!!!
