I want to beat a yzf with my z in speed and handeling

It would probably be cheeper to trade your Z in and buy a YZF , or just ride who cares if you win or lose if your not makin money off of it then just ride and do what you wanted to do with it HAVE FUN

 

If you dont have 4000.00 to put in it then I would just ride and be happy. But if you do, put the Sparks 435 kit in it and you will beat most 4 strokes out there.

 

To answer your question to make you very competitive with the YFZ I would do the following. This keeps a real budget in mind. Either quad could win depending on rider skill.

FCR40 Carb $450
Full exhaust $400
Hotcams $250
Air filter of choice $50
Dyna CDI $350

Even more extreme
LSR +1 axle $370
Burguard +1 a-arms $450
Ported Head $200

440 big bore kit $ price really varies

 

hey "JEFFP" u forgot to add tires. the right tires make ALL the difference in a drap race. hell u could beat a rappy with an R1 engine in it, if his tires are bald and your STOCK. lol aiight just thought id help some

True, I left out a number of taken for granteds. Tires would defiantly make a difference, so would light weight wheels, better handlebars, stronger tie-rods, etc. I guess I shouldn't make the assumption common scense will be used or involved in anyway [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

Great answer, very unbiased. Yeah right, I hate comments like that. Now if you were choosing between purchasing the two I'd get the yfz and save money in the long run but since you're like me and already have a z (which is a great quad in it's on right) you can make it as powerful and more powerful than a stock yfz. If you widen it like all race quads it will handle about equal. The yfz is maybe the best handling stock quad ever but for racing it will still need to be widened and most race quads handle very close to each other. Now if you want to be fair and just go up to the same size engine you could get the 440 kit or you could go even bigger with a 450 kit which is about $1800 to $2000. You could probably hire somebody to bore and stroke it a lot cheaper than a kit. I don't know it'll cost quite a bit to get it to beat a yfz and if the yfz has mods it'll take even more money but it can be done as with anything. You've just got to be a really serious racer and somewhat obsessed with beating everything out there to keep putting more money into it. If you're lucky and rich then I guess you'd be able to keep modding the heck out of it.

 

first of all I dont care what you hate!

second, the z400 is great for trails, and thats about it. Its a weak design that WILL break. the motors are good but the rest of the quad is built a little on the week side.

NOW if your do anything other than trail rideing, sell the z400 , buy a honda or yammy....

or you can just replace the subframe WHEN it breaks
replace the frame WHEN the shock mounts fail
replace the swing arm WHEN it breaks
replace the axel WHEN it bends
replace the stearing stem WHEN it bends.

Plus you can put in about $3000 dollars in just mods to make it keep up with the yzf....

oh and dont forget , when you add the extra HP, you will have to do something about swing arm fully rebounding and staying to buck you off.

I'd have to say if you put a 450 kit in each machine and any mod you could do that is legal for racing it will be very very close. You can only add 11cc to the Yammy, but 51cc to the Z400 or 41cc if the atva limit is 440cc and all the porting you want to either and slap on an FCR on the Z. The Z may start out w/ alot less hp, but will have alot more potential to easily keep up w/ the YFZ.. Same goes for the chassis. Yes the Z will cost more to mod, but will come down to the rider at the checkers.. It's like saying an R1 can't compete w/ the Mighty GSXR1000. It can, it will just cost more!!!!
