LTZ400 faster than LT250R
Maybe stock for stock against an 85-86 model with no power valve.
Anyone on a LTZ400 who thinks he's going to beat any LT250R aside from a stock 85-86 model (maybe) should have seen my 97 Dodge Ram smoke a brand new F150 Lightning the other day.
Normally I don’t argue about what quad is faster but this one is a no brainer.

dude you z400 riders are trippin.
the lt250 makes 32hp and it weighs like 330lbs dry.
the z400 makes like 30hp and it weighs like 370 lbs dry.
the lt is a 6 speed too.
z400 owners yall might have beaten lt's that needed a top end but a good running lt would beat a z in a drag stock for stock.

Stock for stock, the Z400 would possibly get off the line first, but the top end of the two stroke may overcome in the end. Dont know, never seen two stock bocks go at each other. I do know that last presidents day, there were about 3 or 4 Z400s of various mod stages, and I beat them all with my 86(No powervalve). Granted, my quad has a stage 1 port, wiseco piston, FMF pipe, and a K&N filter(among ther things), but I have less than $2000 invested in my bike, including what I paid for it. Z400 starts at around $4000. So for the budget minded, it is easier to go with the LT250
Now, I would love to own a Z400, because I am sure the ride is great and plush, but unless you have a lot of money to spend, it is easier to modify the 2 stroke and get more power.

Well there you said it, Lt250r may need top end work. Well the Z400 is low maintenance to compared to the 2 strokers. I have seen moded out lt250r's but then again I also have seen a ltz400 moded out slightly by Sparks Racing and that thing beats Moded Raptors and some honda 250r's as well. So the Z400 has alot of potential if you want to mod it out as well. Sparks racing is also building my buddies Z400 to a 486 and it will be tremendously fast.
Are you sure your not talking about a lt500??

Pretty, sure I am not talking about a LT500. I have owned my quad for 11 years and I just did a topend rebuid 2 years ago. My quad has been very reliable I am sure that the porting wasn't the deciding factor in me beating the Z400. Either way, the pipe on the Z400 was probably $300, while the porting, my FMF pipe and the K&N air filter cost me less than $300. I got my port work done For only $80, so it isnt a typical case. Still you see my point.

My opinion is that since almost nobody leaves these things stock, the fair comparison would be with breathing mods only---pipe and airbox & jetting. In that scenario, I think the Z400 would come out on top. Of course it's easy to do a port job on an LT and for a grand worth of engine work you have a pretty good running unit. My LT has 39PWK carb, reeds, half-*** pipe, 170psi compression, .080 over, and a guy with a 436 Z with cams, pipe and no porting made me look like a lawn tractor.
