I am looking in to getting a pipe for my z. Just wondering what everyone thinks about hp differences between the slip-on and full exhaust. Have narrowed it down to the pro-circuit or ct but wondered if full exhaust is beneficial. thanx in advance for any responses.

the stock head pipe on the Z is pretty restricitve, where it bolts to the exhaust port the weld on the inside of the pipe is huge!! and look where the pipe has two indentations to clear the cylinder - all of that restricts flow. if you just get the slip on you can ground down the weld on the inside of the pipe.

I have an FMF PowerBomb header and Ti-4 muffler. The increase in bottom end power was dramatic, and top end is very good too. Unfortunately for your question, I didn't put them on seperately and test the differences. I always get a full system on a performance machine, that way the header and muffler are a MATCHED PAIR.

hey thanx for the responses guys, keep them coming. schwendi, what all do i need to gut out of the stocker, and i would imagine that this will require rejetting. can i also take off the peashooter welded in the chrome end cap. will any of this hurt my z. i ride in dusty conditions normally and also a lot of mud(Haspin Acres) in Laurel,In. Also, i hear a lot of talk about totally removing the air box lid, when i was cleaning it yesterday there was a bit of mud on the cover, my K and N filter with adapter and outerwear should be in this week but i am wondering will that little bit of mud get through the K and N? don't want to hurt the engine. thanx in advance for any responses.

Both of these pipes are good as the dirt wheels exaust shoot out prooved. Personally when I get my z next year i am going to get the 4 stroke full exaust system made br ct for the z. Its a great system -mid to top end and it gives you a ton of torque. Also the ct will meet the new 96 db. level coming next year to race tracks and state land if you ride on them. The ct cones with the right jets that you will need(pc doesnt) and its cheaper than the pc. Hear is a site that you can research some pipes http://www.dirtwheelsmag.com/detail.asp?id=207 . This one is a little more about the ct http://www.ctracing.com/Z400KFZ00. Hope this helped you.

Hey sparx, the pea shooter is behind the chrome end cap. I removed mine, rejetted to a 145 main, put a thin plastic #4 washer (about1/8in. thick) on the needle valve, backed the air screw out another 1/2 turn, and drilled out the plastic weld spots on the top of the air box so I have six 3/8in. holes, and removed the snorkle. And it runs so awesome now, for only $4.64 ($4 for the jet $.64 for the washer). It'll pull up in a wheelie at about 2000 rpm's in second without hardly trying. I can't believe the low end gains. It's cheap gains till your pipe comes in. By the way as you can tell I plan on going with ct. Hope this helps.

thanx to all who replied to this thread so far. any one else have any input? i know this question is always being asked but when i looked up advanced search on hp differences for full exhuast or slip on nothing came up. hey also, today i was just riding around the yard, practicing the wheelie and after about 10 min. of not so hard riding when i parked and turned off my z a little fluid was leaking from the rear brake side of the case just behind the rear brake lever. it was only a drop or two. smelled a little stronger than gas and had a green tint to it. anyone have any ideas? probably nothing but maybe some of you other z riders have seen this. well thanx for any replies, and i appreciate the help.
