I have a 00 Quadmaster and was thinking about putting a good set of mud tires on it.

What's good? How do mud tires ride on normal trails? Do they go great in the mud but yet stink for normal trail riding?

What have others done and does it make a big difference with 4-wheelin in the mud?

I got stuck a number of times this weekend in some pretty nasty stuff, I am thinking a better tire may get me through the tough mud spots.

Thanks

A true mud tire like Vamps or Outlaws work really good in mud. But on hardpack they have a really rough ride and dont perform all that well. A more all terrain tire like the Blackwater or Bear claws
provide a good ride and good mud performance. They also perform excelent on hardpack and rocks.
From the sounds of it your best choice would mostlikley be the Blackwater XT. I also have had really good luck with the old Dick Cepek Spider Trac's. ITP baught their molds and now sells them as the ITP Spider Trac.

I have the 27" Titan 589's on my 98 Quadrunner 500 and really like them! They are great in the mud, and I think they are great on the trail as well!!

I probably should have titled this - What's the best all around tire???

Will I have to get new rims or will say 26" blackwaters fit on my current stock rims?

You can stick with the stock rims they will work great and are lightweight aluminum already. I been doing some checking around and the
Mud Shark's look to be a excelent value. A much lower cost then the Blackwaters.

I stayed with the stock size tire on my Quadrunner, and got the Goodyear Mud Runners. I like them - the only way i get stuck is if i bottom out. They ride good on the trails, the back end likes to wander a little, but it isn't distracting. They are a little rougher than the stock, but they have no rubber - I have 500 miles on the mudrunners, they show very little wear and no flats. Good Luck.

I just put 27" x 12" back and 27" x 10" front blackwaters on my 00 LTF500 Quadrunner. No problem with clearance around the fenders. Gave me an additional 1.5" of ground clearance. Good mud tire (until they load up), good trail tire. I'm happy with them.

I own a 2000 LTF500, and I am not really happy with the OEM Dunlops either, and have been looking to replace them with a more aggresive tread design for mud running.
I am faced with a problem though, all of the brand names suggested in this thread are excellent choices, and I have looked at every one, it is the price thats my concern.
As an example, the Titan 589's (27x12x11) are about $87.00 ea. U.S.
In Canada the same tire is $167.00 ea. !!!!
Come on... that is more than it costs to replace a tire on my Chevy 4x4.
What happened to this free trade agreement...
The difference in the dollar, would take it from $87.00 U.S. to about $125.00 CDN.
I have told the local dealer, & tire shops that the Dunlops are for sale, if anyone is looking for a used set, cause I won't be able to buy some 'til these baby's are gone.

If anyone wants a good tire value Check out
www.treadepot.com
they have 26-9-12 Mud Sharks for $44.00
and 26-12-12 Mud Sharks for $56.00
Unfortunatly they dont make a 27" Mud Shark
but they are still an excelent price

Indeed the mud shark are priced right. The Black waters I've seen are about 100 bucks a tire, Ouch! That's seems like a stickem-up price.
