Default Bent Shift Shaft!!!Help

Well my chain jumped off of the front sprocket today and jammed its self between the sprocket and shift shaft So now I need to know if I can change the shaft with out seperating the cases, how do I change this with the least amount of stress. Also could this of bent the shift forks or damaged anything else.

Thanks in Advance

Rod

well the good news is you can change it without spliting the cases . take the left and right foot pegs off(or 1 bolt from each and loosen the 2 to swing out of way) then the drive sprocket . then take the clutch cover off and the shaft is in the lower left hand corner . if it is bent bad you will need to cut the shaft on the sprocket side with a cutoff wheel . then tap it out wwith a hammer . as for the gears most likely not because it has no contact with any main part on that side . might as well replace the spring on the shaft also . its only 6 or 10 bucks and it can help with the shifting since it is an originl part and could be weak . hope this helped .

o yea i forgot . the clutch hub has to come out also . so if you havent replaced the clutch now would be a good time to consider that also .

you do have to take the clutch basket off. the rod hits it when you try to remove it.
make sure you cut as close to the case as you can to get rid of whatever bend there is.

Thats funny that did the same to mine...i went ridin and i went through a 3 ft deep river and there was a very strong current and it pushed me down strem a little but i kept goin till i hit a rock.so the chain got hit by a rock and it fell inbetween the sprocket and the shifter and the swingarm. That was 4 days ago but i still didnt fix it. .But the shifter i said screw it and rode like that and didnt have any problems. << hey look a smiley face
