also at first when you get the z it will have plenty of power to your rideing experience as you get better put aftermarket power into it....there is lots of these machines on the race track and they have enouph power for that and more power with simple mods....

 

I have an 03 Raptor and a 03 Z400 and both are still stock. There is a very noticable difference in power. The Raptor is much faster. I have raced with friends of the same weight & height over and over switching bikes back and forth, and the Z has never beaten the Raptor. Not even come close. I have not been on any MX tracks, but so far I have not found any situation where I would prefer the Z over the Raptor. The Z is a great bike and I would be happy with it if I didn't have a Raptor in the garage. I leave the Z for my Wife.

 

i would get either an 03 z for cheap, or get one of the new 04 z's. Newer 03s have the axle and frame fixes, and i have had mine for about 2 months now, and have loved it. I have had nothing to complain about with it, great quad, very stable, fast, add some mods and you can ride it forever.

 

You may not even need a pipe at all. Just taking off the noise baffle at the end of the snorkel (see my site) wakes the Z WAY up.

I've only needed more power when running wide open on flat dirt paths against a piped Banshee.

 

Corpsie speaks the truth, small mods but they really wake this bike up. if you want to buy the fastest bike then don't get the z, it is a great bike but not the fastest. i am anxious to see how it fares after my mods. the handling is good and i have not been in a situation where i felt that it was under powered. i am happy with my z, great in the woods.
