Default Thinking of buying a Eiger 400

Thinking of buying a Eiger 400 automatic for farm use - just want a good, reliable machine. Not interested in racing, hillclimbing, etc. Just want something that starts and runs everyday, consistently. I'm concerned about how the automatic transmissions hold up. Need some advice!

I had a 2 wheel drive 5 speed. Very nice dependable solid atv. The engine has great low end power. It would tow an 1800 pound trailer with no problem in low range. I haven't heard of any problem with the tranny on the auto as long as you use low for heavy work or towing.

I think that you will be very happy in buying that Auto Eiger. Driving an automatic is very much like a snowmobile. You have to wait until the engine gets up to about 4000rpm or so before it starts moving. As you have mentioned that you will not be doing any hill climbing so I think that there won't be much use for an automatic, there's also very good low end torque on the Eiger Auto tranny. The automatic transmission is about $300CDN more than the manual.

Ahhh, my first post after trolling for so long. I was in the same boat you are in. I decided on the 2004 Eiger Auto 4x4 due to price and having High/Low. I have put 100 trail miles on it. Just changed the oil and cleaned the spark plug. Havent adjusted the valves yet, they seem to be quiet. Overall, the machine is comfortable and powerful enough for me (5'11", 200lbs). The automatic is nice when loafing along or hill climbing with lots of throttle. My buddies have a 2004 Grizzly 660 and a 2003 Kodiak 450. Those machines are great (nice w/locking diff, but also 1k to 2k more expensive). The grizzly is speedy on the flats (and macho w/ IRS), but when we are all riding the atv trails thru trees, water, hill climbing, etc., the Eiger does not get left behind. Hope this helps w/your decision.

joe.

MY step mom has a, i think 2002 or 2003 suzuki eiger 400 , 4x4 with a 5speed transmission.it rides smooth a liitle nice top speed(55mph) no problems at all with the 4wheeler.it is good all around, work, trail, woods.snow, and for play. but i am 15 yrs old and i am use to the high performance sport quads, i like extreme torque and speed ,i love to do wheelies and drag race. so the 4x4 eiger is OK i guess to me. i like to go in big big mud puddle areas and i like to play in the snow with it.

I have an 03 eiger I put about 120 miles of trail riding on it and had no problems. As long as you take care of it (service and clean up and lubricate after riding) you should have no problems. For a heavy qaud it is pretty agile on the trail and will get some air on the jumps. I think you will be pleased with the eiger and for the money i think its a great choice.
