I need to weld my frame but am not sure what precautions to take electronicly. I know to remove the CDI box and am going to remove the resister. But do i need to worry about the stator. Should i remove the engine. I called the local shops and they dont have a clue not that im surprized.

I don't think you have to worry about messing up any of the electronics unless the electrical current will travel right through them. As far as I know, unless the engine is running, the current won't draw itself to any other electronic componants. The electric current takes the shortest path possible between the two electrods, so unless the electronic equipment is in this direct path they won't be affected.

I need to weld the tab on that you bolt the expantion pipe to. It is located directly behind the steering column and just below the CDI box

Stocky

Clean paint, dirt, grease, etc. from a spot on the frame reasonably close to the spot you'll be welding. Use this spot to firmly attach your ground clamp. Cover anything spatter or sparks will damage such as wires, plastic, etc. with a fire blanket, wet rags or whatever you have and weld away. The key to not hurting the electronics is to get a good ground and keep it close to where you're welding. If you keep a good ground you will never have a problem.
