My Z is fairly new like yours, and the rear brake squeaks on it too.
Nothing to worry about, just keep ridin it.

I have had mine for a little over a year now and it doesn't squeak any more. Hasn't in a long time! Just like jester said, it just isn't broke in yet. Car brakes do the same thing!

i've had my z for almost a year, and the brakes squeak on and off, but now it's constant and annoying...it's a mixture of sand and bad brake pads...my solution is vented rotor with new pads

ohhh hehe i remember this problem. one of the original problems of the Z400.

the sqeaking of the rear brake is due to heat stress on a solid brake rotor. the rotors for some reason likes to warp a little when they get hot.

the fix. wait til yer pads grind down enough to not contact the rotor, or buy a new brake rotor.

rotor is probably bent, the stock skid plate won't stop a pebble from hitting the rotor, the half covering my brake rotor broke off after about 10 - 15 hrs., I just replaced the stock skid with a armidillo skid, it looks pretty beffy, I also put on a 13 tooth front sproket.

Mine did the same thing new, I just burnished the brakes when ever it would start to squeak, to do this I would ride the rear brake hard for ~ 1/8 mile a couple of times.
