Trying to get my swing arm off my 87lt250r , I got the nut off but does the bolt screw out or can I tap it out ? This thing is given me fitts when I tried to screw it out it wont move and I'm starting to round off the bolt end any help would be great.

it taps out

i had to use an airhammer to get mine out

spray it with wd40 and let it soak for a while

sometimes it can be hard to remove without damaging

BETWEEN THE SWING ARM AND FRAME (BOTH SIDES) THEN TAP OUT WHATS LEFT OF THE BOLT..
LIKE I SAID I TRYED EVERYTHING.. AIR HAMMER, LUBED IT WITH EVERYTHING I COULD GET MY HANDS ON.. FOR LIKE 2 WEEKS I PUT MYSELF THROUGH HELL . AND EVEN SMASHED MY HAND TWICE... YA ONCES WAS NOT ENOUGH... IF ITS IN THERE THAT BAD YOU GOING TO DESTROY
THE BOLT ANYWAY... HEY I HOPE THIS HELPS....

You will need a new bolt and nut and bushing kit. I had to heat and beat my bolt out, and then die grind the old bushing out. Not fun. That was three months ago. I just cracked my swingarm so now I have to do it again. Hopefully it isn't a pain this time.

 

when you put it back in,,,,cover it in antiseize lubricant

I was in your exact situation. My swingarm cracked and I wanted to take it off the bike to get it welded. I tried heat, WD-40, PB Blaster, a huge sledge.....nothing worked. I got it welded on the bike and rode it that way for a couple of years. I eventually tore the bike down to replace the frame 'cause it got bent, so I was able to cut my frame around the bolt head. After I got it out, I discovered that the pivot spacer had welded itself to the pivot shaft. I put it on a vise and beat the crap out of it and it never budged. If the cause of your problem is the same as mine was, it's not gonna come out no matter how much you beat on it.

Without trashing your frame, I would agree with Greenbud that your only option is to grind down the shaft. I would start with the bolt head and try to pivot the swingarm out that side. You may have to also grind it down on the threaded side to get it out. Good luck, you're gonna need it!
