Paging Bubba297: Your Solution Worked
#1
I posted a topic a while back with this problem:
"My first concern is the motor. This thing refuses to idle. When it's cold it will idle without a problem but after I've ridden it for a while it will die down and stall every time. The idle screw is as far as it can go as well. What's the deal here? Is this related to my next problem?"
Your Solution:
"You are experiencing a common problem with these machines. The needle and needle jet wears out on those 34mm Mikuni's and cause a rich running condition that is impossible to eliminate without replacing them. I went through this with my wife's 91 last year."
It runs great now thanks!
On a side note, I still have a lot of oil coming out of the exhaust port. It splatters everywhere and even does so at the pipe/silencer connection. Any thoughs on this?
Thanks!

What kind of bike? The first thing you need is exhaust seals, oil really shouldn't seep out of them. If you motor is putting that much oil into the pipe something must be worn to the point of letting the oil out of the motor. Could be top end, valves, seals, bearings, ect. I'd get a compression test done, and do a leak down test.

WOW, looking through the pages and see your name. I am glad that solved your carb problems. I usually dont give advise unless I am sure it works, either by myself trying it or from good sources telling me. If you have the oil residue leaking out of the pipe connections, take the exhaust apart, clean all the carbon out of the pipe where it meets the flange, clean the flange itself real good, then apply a layer of ultra copper silicone and re-assemble it. If you dont get too crazy with the silicone you wont be able to notice it, but that stuff is great. You can also change the oil/gas ratio just a bit, but that will change your jetting too. Also keep in mind that if the bike was running real rich before then it shouldnt be as bad to leak now that you have the carb fixed. Great job fixing it up! Bubba

My LT used to spew black oily stuff out of the pipe/cylinder connection. A little bit of copper RTV at the exhaust flange cleared it up.
