quadzilla clutch problem
#1
i'm having problems with my clutch when its cold i have to rev it a fair bit because when i put it in gear from neutral it starts moving, i have ajusted my cable so it will pull the clutch open more i went all the way untill it would slip and went back a bit till it stopped slipping and it still does it, i just got it a few months ago and it has done it since i got it. I bought a new tusk clutch kit to try, it was only 28 bucks, but i havent installed it yet. was wondering if the basket might have groves in it not letting the plates seperate like they should, but i havent opened it up yet, what should i look for has anybody had this problem and has anybody used the tusk kit?

That is most likely your problem. But dont buy a new clutch basket if it is grooved, unless they are real deep. Take a file and smooth out the ridges in the fingers and it will be fine for a long time.

mine did that also, and in fact if it sat for a week or 2, would actually kill the engine the first time it was put in gear. best thing i have ever done to this quad was put in amsoil 20w-50. the thing shifts better, no more clutch drag, easier to find nuetral. way better.
only problem is, i had a minor leak at the sprocket (used after market seal/o-ring) now its leaking pretty good, so i think i will order oem seal, and a few o-rings, along w/a new clutch cable (aftermarket one frayed after 2 yrs).
anyway, i have heard lots of people saying dont put synthetic oil in a zilla, but my bro talked me into, and i wish i had done it years ago.

Wildcard,
Im having clutch problems too. Different symptoms, but clutch problems none the less.. I think I have gotten some good advise from some knowlegable folks. If you want to check out the thread its zilla groaning noise.
I cant tell you how many threads I've read about theBIG NO NO"S of synthetic case oil.... Amsoil or not !!!!
great for a mix oil at 50:1 but NEVER in the gear case !! As you can see by Instigators post, no offence of course, He is already experiencing the why not....... $$$$$$$$$$$$$ ....... Not that cost for the oil is the issue. Synthetic oil is breaking down the seals. Not one seal in his motor that is contacted by the synthetic will be worth a ****. Do some reaserch on this forum, You will learn from others' mistakes. thats why its here..
If it has trouble moving Deffinately pull the cover. read the info on my post b-4 you do... Its free..
As for a hinson basket , If it really needs it, do it !! I filed the tabs on the basket on my 85 ATC 250R, put in a new clutch, and did not like the feel. You could feel it when you let off the gas. When I put a clutch in my TRX, I flipped for a basket. easy to do. Worth every penny!!!
tusk clutch kit I dont know.. if ya got a cover gasket rip it down and toss it in. let us know how it goes. At least you will know what you got. If you can get by filing the basket what do you got to loose?? Ultimately Some day you will want to up-grade to the good stuff ( stock clutch kit, Barnett HD springs, And a billett basket) if you are hard core.
jmo. good luck!
Keep those Zillas Rippin!!
