old lt50

I have an old lt 50 i bought for my doughter and its getting gas getting spark but wont run. i have heard this is a piston port engine and if the main bearing gets any slop in it it will be out of time. what do you guys think.?

I just bought one too for my son... I haven't even started working on it yet.
I can't imagine having enough main bearing slop to affect the timing to the point it wouldn't run... Doesn't make sense to me.
I visualize the need for 4 things to make an engine run.
Fuel
Source of ignition (Spark)
Air
Sufficient compression environment to sustain combustion
I'd be willing to bet that your compression is pretty low, thus making it very hard to start/run.
Carb gummed up so no fuel delivered, or improper amounts delivered
Air filter and/or exhaust plugged off as to impede air flow.
I don't know what stock compression is, but I'd check that with a gauge and see where it is...
at least it would be a place to start.

My daughter has an 87 lt50h it is very hard starting when it hasn't been ran for a while. make sure the safety cord is on the whole way. It is located just under the back of the seat. Take your muffler off from the head and make sure it is not plugged. Take the top of the head off put your piston on bottom & check to see if the exhaust port is plugged with carbon. The head gasket is metal you can use it again. These are some things I had to do to my daughters. These are all pretty simple jobs. One other thing make sure there is 2-cycle oil in the tank under the seat . I was told they won't start if the oil gets low. Good luck I am rebuilding the top end and the carb. on my daughters 50 any suggestions let me know.
