Default Just got a Quadracer! 2 questions

I just picked up a '90 Quad Racer yesterday that is all stock and in fair condition. Before I bought it I noticed it was leaking coolent out of a small hole on the water pump. I figured this was the weep hole and that the seal was going out. Is this a difficult repair?

Second, the carb leaks gas out of a hose whenever the quad is shut off and the petcock isn't turned off. i'm assuming that the needle and seat arn't closing all the way or that they're worn. Does that sound right?

Next summer after I put some money into the quad I'll be able to compare it to my KXF-400.

I'd say your right on the money with both your assumptions... the H20 pump is not hard to fix... Neither is rebuilding the carb.
Buy a manual!!!!! That is the 'bible' when working on the old LT's...

Good luck!

the carb could also be a float level adjustment

If you have the money I would just buy a new carb. The stock ones really suck. I put a kehien PWK 36 on my 91' before I sold it and it made a huge differance.

I was planning on getting a service manual, since I do all my own work, but it will be a few weeks out. Now that I have a direction to go, I'll check the float level and the needle and seat. Maybe there is just some crud in there. Do the floats just need to be set level when you hold the carb upside down?

Chuck, why do you think the stock carb sucks? It's a flat side, and the quad runs decently enough.

I'm looking forward to restoring the quad but that will take some time. For the price I paid I think I got a good deal, not a smoking deal, but a good one. I need go through it, and tighten all the bolts, lube the cables, get a new rear disc, and the rear shock looks to be leaking so I'll have to have it rebuilt. Also the plastic is faded and has some cracks. But, all in all, its all there and well worth fixing up. I figure I couldn't go wrong for a $1000.

dont think you really need our help, sounds like you got things under control. Rebuilding a carb costs like 20 bucs but id get a new one if you get the chance, it is about 14 years old. The dealer can get you that new screw and water pump seal.

I think the stock carb. sucks because they don't work the best. I noticed that with my new one it idled and ran twice as smooth as it did before, I actually think it made the quad sound better, and there is a huge differance in performance.

Huh, that's interesting. Depending on what I find, I'll still probably keep the stock mikuni just because I have lots of jets for it.
