Default do i need a valve adjustment?

on a z400, what are the symptoms that it needs the valves adjusted??? does it do anything in particular?

You are supposed to check/adjust them at 10hrs.

It will tick,,,,and loose performance.

It is always a good idea to keep your valves in check.

Yeah, check em. If they are loose they might tick, but if they are tight, you may not hear anything. After the new engine runs for a while (break in period) valves will generally become tighter....because the valves pound on the valve seats, guides,..typically causing them to seat deeper (closer to the tappet)....narrowing the gap between valve and tappet.....

If your valves become tight enough you could experience loss of compression, backfiring, the carbs could pop off the intake boots...or worse.

Buy the manual, get the tools, maintain your ride. Have fun.
