Quadracer rear shock - rebuildable?
#3
They are rebuildable, but you can't do as much with them as an aftermarket shock. The aluminum body can become wore out, and if so they can't rebuild them. There is little you can do in the area of valving on them as well. But if your shock body isn't too wore out, they can redo the seals and replace oil and some other limited mods. I talked to the guys at Works about this, and am sending them mine pretty soon once I get my a-arms done and order fronts.

All of the OEM Quadracer shocks are made by Showa. The fronts are junk in my opinion, but the rear shocks are rebuildable and can be revalved to some extent. Rebuilds run around $100, but a revalve will cost an additional $150. For a playbike you're probably better off rebuilding yours, but if you need a new spring, that will be another $100. MX-Tech is a pretty good source for springs. I have not heard good feedback on Works Connection rear shocks but I haven't used them either. Works front shocks are usually a great value for a playbike or ocassional race bike.

Showa. Dang, I was hoping it was a KYB, then my snowmachine dealer could rebuild it. The Works rear shock, is that an ultra cross? Those things run upwards of $450. Too much for me. I'll have to check around to see who else might be able to rebuild my shock locally.

List price for a Quadstar is $519 and $639 for a Ultracross but you could get them new for a better price, maybe 10 - 15 % cheaper. I'd rebuild the stock one. I just revalved my Quadzilla shock ($250) and put a lighter 4.0 kg/mm spring on it ($100) and it handles great.

Vegas Quadracer, I too live in Henderson and have an 88 LT250R. I have heard that the shock is NOT rebuildable and so I am glad to see your input. After seeing works shocks for $500.00 and new stock shocks for almost $1000.00, I am extremely interested in finding out where to have my shock rebuilt for $100.00!! Any help would be appreciated. The Henderson hills are missing me! Anyone else with more info, please chime in.
Thanks again!

I will soon have some info to contribute to this topic. I just noticed that my rear shock is oozing oil. My last ride was at some killer trails that we rode for about 6-7 hours and half of that was in the rain.
I've heard good things about MX Tech so I'm going to send it there.

Awesome guys, but could you spare some details like names & numbers as well as maybe some prices you have been quoted? Sam 250, where is MX Tech and how much do they want to rebuild your rear shock? Thanks for the help!
