high octane

how high of octane do u guys think i should be able to put in my z250 without burning up the valves? I know that my dad told me to run a mixture of turbo blue race gas with a 105 octane rating ( what he uses in his 71 440 GTX) and 87. Would that invalidate my warrenty if the dealership found out somehow? Would it damage my motor in any way? And dont hold back on all the technical details if u know because i speak motor fluently.

First off, high octane wont burn up valves, at least I have never heard of it doing that, second, running a high octane just to run it gives no benifit what so ever. A z250 will probably run on 89 octane just as good as with 112 octane. Many people think that high octane means performance, well it doesn't. It is only needed for high compression motors. More specifically, run whatever doesnt make you motor ping. If your motor doesnt ping with 87, then you dont need 100. But if your motor is so built that it pings with 100, then run 110. A z250 is a very mild motor. You can probably get away with running 87 or 89.

Well I know that it doesnt make that much difference in performance but i needed to know because my freaking stepdad is trying to tell me that by putting higher octane feul in it would jeoperdize my warrenty . He was also the one who said that running high octane would burn up my valves . I am just gonna listen to my real dad from now on. Thanx abunch for ur help.

Thanks
I love that bike.
Soon it will have +2+1 a-arms, and it already has billet headlights.
Anyways, I would have to say that warranty would be voided by running too low of octane, or less than the minimun requirment, as opposed to running too high of an octane.

i think there is a noticable difference by running slightly higher octane than that of what is recomended, as for the warranty, if anything is damged as a result to high octane gas i think they sort of blame it on you and try to make up things, by the way if you ever run into any problems you think you can fix under warranty, DONT, send it to your dealer and have them fix it because if later on down the line that simple fix hurts something else they wont fix it for free
