KCLAYD,Im not asking you or anybody to trade the KQ for a Sportsman.I'd never do that.Im just telling my side of story on these two machines.I also enjoyed my KQs.I just wished Suzuki would have put a larger cc engine and disk brakes on it.My buddie that did not make that hill?No need for me to try it with his KQ,he is a very capable rider.Simple put, there just was not enough wheel speed to navigate that long, steep hill.I've only been in that type of situation a few times on my KQs.I do totally agree with you when you say differant strokes for differant folks.I like comparing differant riding experiences with others.Enjoy your day,im going to play some basketball at the gym for awhile, chat to ya later-------BILL

Something eles come to mind. What yr KQs are you guys riding? Some of you guys in here are telling me that you ride serious mud with the KQ and have NO brake problems. My brake problems occured on both the 87 and 97 model KQs.Im wondering if MAYBE Suzuki changed the seals and brakes around on the newer models?Anybody know?-------BILL

Hey Bill!

My Suzy KQ is a '00 model. You are right that drum brakes don't like mud and water as much as disk stoppers. And that is a complaint. I can't say that Suzuki is sealing them any better now, just don't know. I agree with you that a 500 cc power plant would be ideal for those extra long steep inclines.

I agree that the Polaris Sportsman is a great Quad, too. If there were a crappy Suzuki dealer here, and a great Polaris shop, I would probably be riding a Polaris. But, that isn't the case. I love my Suzy KQ and my dealer! Wouldn't trade either one.

i wasn't really looking for a comparison tho...
i would choose the sportsman over the KQ in a heartbeat but i don't think i will be able to afford one ...but from the replies it looksa like the suzzy atacks up fairly well cept in power and speed...
thankx again guys.

Cartman,

Get the quad you want. There really isn't that much difference in price, expecially if you're financing it. What's the difference in a few dollars a month. I like the King Quad. I ride with a friend who has a modified 99 Polaris Scrambler 500 with giant, killer tires. We go the same places, although there is a world of difference between the two. But, don't get a Suzy KQ, if you don't really want one. You deserve better than that, and so does the quad. Wouldn't it be better to be riding your dream, instead of next-best?

Me? I'm happy with my Suzy KQ. Bill is happy with his Sportsman. I don't know how much speed difference there is between a KQ and a Sportsman, but if you want speed, isn't a sports machine more appropriate? With its many gears, the KQ can give you quickness on demand. With a 500 cc, the Sportsman should be able to do much the same. The important question is what will you be happy with? If you want to be sitting atop a no-shift Sportsman 500, then go for it. The Suzy KQ is quite the opposite, with 3 gear ranges and 5 gears in each range, and options of 2wd, 4wd, and differential lock. On a Polaris, your mind is pretty much made up for you, but a Suzy KQ requires your input. Its a big investment, so make sure you get the Quad that will make you happy. Get the best (for you). Why settle for the rest?

Good riding!

Clay

thanx kclayd,
i seriously want the sportsman but there are so many other excelent quads out there. i'm tryin to get a general feel for as many as i can before i plunk down 5-6K of my money for one. and the introduction of the new Ranchers ain't makin this any easyier

i realy apreciate your thoughts.

p.s..at this point i would be happy with ANYTHING i want a quad so bad....but right now the sportsman 500 is on top of the dream list..
thanx again
