Default top secret: 230 smoke screen

im picking up a 86 230 quadsport tonight for $150 and it smokes so bad you cant see it but what i dont get is why it does it because it has good compression the correct amount of oil coul the oil ring have collapsed or could the valve seals leak constantly wich would be odd and it smokes all the time.

you mean correct ammount of oil in the case or in the gas cause the 230 is a 4 stroke far as i know. if they are mixing oil in the gas on a 4 stroke then thats a no brainer. nothing else constructive to say

hmmm, we both like smoke machines obivously. do yourself a favor and save the headache dont buy it listen to me on this one, all mine was is a headache. it smokes(ok top end), then there was a unforseen play in the crank, eww now i need to do the bottom end. then the tranny is fungodded up, if that is a word. i am on my 2nd engine, and soon to be third, just listen and save up for a more reliable bike, i am serious i know what can go wrong with these bikes, and dont want another person **** outta luck like me

Dollars to doughnuts its the valve seals. These are a common problem on the 230.

The 230 is a nice bike for being old school. I've had a few, and they have always been reliable. My other 230 smoked, and I fixed it the first time. Whether or not it breaks all the time, depends on if you buy a POS.

If you bought a POS you can't complain about having to fix it. For $150 you can expect to dump a few hundred into it at least.
