z400 bad frames?
#1
I've been sitting here for a while trying to find out about frame issues with these quads.. I am going to look at one sometime this week, but I remember hearing somthing about bad frames? any truth to it? and if so, is there an easy way to fix them? I dont really jump much, are they really weak, or does it take some serious beatings to break them? Any help is much appreciated! Dont want to "waste" my money

Hey lets not get your panties in a buhch, You started with your disrespect of smitty a fellow PA, rider. We kid about each others quads- but it seems you are doing some name calling. This is the attitude that takes our riding areas away . Be nice , say something bad about my KFX.

hey ill telly ou what went on... first model 400's came out with a weak frame but if you dont jump much then i wouldnt worry about them... yes it takes quite a bit b4 breakage..... less than most quads though... the frames were replaced with a stronger metal frame mid 2003. if you dont jump alot i wouldnt really worry about it... if you do buy and get into jumping you can buy a gusset kit for 20$ and then your as strong as a rock. you sound like a trail rider so i think the 400 will be awesome for you... its just an upgraded 400ex... the raptor might be something to look into also it is a pretty nasty trail eater. hope this help.. if you have any more questions you can PM me

If you order a replacement frame for the same bike your replacing it for....you will get the same frame.
I've ran into this myself, is the only reason I know this. There are 3 different part numbers for the 2003 Z400 frame. The bottom one listed on the fiche is the updated one with the gussets.
The 1st one is weak and has the non-removal grab rail.
The 2nd one is the same as the 1st except with the removable grab rail
The 3rd one has a the larger gussetts on the front engine mount and rear swingarm area with the removable grab rail. I didn't notice anything different on the front shock mounts......Maybe there's a fourth frame..........LMAO
On the fiche, there is a serial number listed that shows the last quad that received that type frame. I haven't looked to see what they are using on the 2004s yet.
