I just bought a '99 King Quad this fall and love it. It now has about 100 miles on it and (not enough) and I have noticed a noise in the valve train--just a real slight rattle when it is hot.

Has anybody had this problem. The dealer first said he didn't hear it, but his tech later said he could and it sounded like the valves needed adjusting. The dealer then said this wasn't covered under warranty. Should this be covered under warranty, or better yet, is it?

jonfabre,
Valve adjustment is considered a normal maintanence item and is not normally covered under warranty unless you could convince the dealer (or the Suzuki factory rep) that the valves were out of adjustment or defective at the time of purchase. I have a 96 KQ and I didn't have mine adjusted until about 1200 miles and they were only slightly out of spec.

I was just wondering if you have changed the oil lately. The viscosity breaks down, happens quicker if you do a lot of slow riding, and the oil stays hot. The it doesn't fill in clearances like new oil. I know car engines will do this..
You may want to change it, If you haven't lately, and see if that helps, before you start adjusting valves.
