1990 Suzuki quadracer LT250r first timer questions
#1
Hi,
I am a new member here. I recently purchased a 1990 Suzuki quadracer LT250r. it seems like there is not much information on these on the web, i didnt know if you guys could point me in the right direction of where to find info for performance parts/upgrades/basic info?? Also i am having top end problems with this. The top end went after a whole summers use. So my friend rebuilt the top end for me with the next size up piston (265?? maybe, if that makes sense) We broke it in nice and easy and I went out for a ride on it and the top end went again. The top end was professionally machined and sized to match. I dont think that this was a machining problem or a installation problem. The one thing that was not changed was the jets/reeds. I have very little knowlege on the carb set up on these. I am used to dealing with fuel injected cars so im am lost. The one common thing that i noticed was that it was cold out when I lost the top end both times. Is there some adjustment that I am not noticeing/unaware of?? could this end up being a bottom end problem??? I know I need to get a manual but is there anywhere online that has info on basic stuff specific to this quad? Any info would be helpfull. thanks for you time!!!!

There is a lot of info on this site about Quadracers if you do a search. Also use Google and you will find a lot of hop-up parts on the web. As for your top end, what did it do? Did it seize, the skirt break off, we need more info?
The LT's are awesome quads, you won't find as many parts and accessories for them as a Honda 250R because they arn't quite as popular but there is a lot of stuff out there. As for a manual, I need one to. sometimes Ebay has them for cheap, and there was a link somebody posted to a site that had them for free but I don't know if they offered one for the LT.

Look at your plug. You may be way lean and burning it up. You should get years on one top end. Welcome to the Quadracer cult, had one for almost 13 years and still like it very much.

It locked up totally then when it cooled off it would turn over with no compression. I havent taken it appart again I have been procrastinating cause of the cold weather. Im going to try to open it up soon so see what is going on in there. Although The spark plug just looked dark from oil but other than that the plug looked fine. If it was from being to lean how would I richen it up. Im new with this carb stuff, is there an adjustment?? and where would it be and if not how would i richen it up?? Thanks for the help!! I appreciate it.

How much clearance did you allow for the piston to grow? Wisecos need more clearance than stockers.

I just pulled everything appart. The rings are done. the bottom ring is completely gone the top ring is still kinda there. there is scoring on the cylinder walls only specifically on the sides. not front to back. there was plenty of water in the engine and the radiator was full. Is there anything specific i should be looking for to find signs of overheating?? the bottom end where the crank holds the piston looks like it had some heat transfer on it like it had been hot, is this normal wear and tear??? Is there anything specific to look for while its in peices?? I dont know the clearences on the piston or anything since i didnt do the work last time, im trusting that the shop had given my friend the correct clearences, hopefully. I will go back tomorrow night and check out all the specs on the parts that he got. Thanks for all the Help I appreciate it!!
