I say sell it when the new Zuki 450 comes out this year and get one of those.

First off...Sandgod is right when he says you need cams, a new carb, and a CDI on the 440 to get even close to its full potential. Most important of these being the carb, which was NOT included in the shootout may I ad, which has easily made the most gain of any mod since I have gone to a 440. Secondly, Fidge1, I'm not sure what kind of 440's you've been racing or to what extent they have been tricked, but if they are even decently tuned they would have no problem beating a piped Pred, TRUST ME. If I had to do it all over again I would have waited for the YFZ because as of where I am right now, I am only pulling a couple quads on the piped, jetted YFZ's.

There was a pretty rippin' Z at the tail end of last year's dirt drags....wish I could remember which shop it was out of, I'll watch this spring and post about it.

People really need to read when it comes to comparison tests. All of the current machines are capable of being modded to increase performance....but don't be so blind that you can't see how with unequal mods one machine beats another. Good grief!

If you swap cam's, up the compression, get a new carb, add a rev box, and bore to a 440 with a port and polish you would have a smokin fast Z440. JMO

If you are comfortable on the Z400, there is no reason to sell it. Build the motor some and have fun. I'm a sure a trick z440 would race just fine. You don't have to sell, trade, or buy anytime something else comes out. Just do some tinkering and get your quad some extra power.

I just read that shootout and dont agree 100 %, The pred only got a wb slip on for one thing and the yfz had the full system from fmf plus it was jetted and dialed in. They need to be stock for stock to get the best results

This is what each fourwheeler got in the shootout.

Yfz 450-the only mod on it was a fmf exhaust

Z400-Wiseco 440 kit, Hot cams, DSP head work, Fmf exhaust, Elka front shocks and other stuff like nerfs etc.

Polaris Predator-Pure Polaris exhaust, Evensville carb mods, Trail tech bar kit, Rath racing rear hubs.

Thats how the fourwheelers were modded for the shootout.

yes you are correct.. but has any1 heard of those carb mods? i havent.. doesnt mean they are bad tho... and the hubs and bar kit were totally stupid.. just put them on it for no reason
all the pred had to make it "faster" was a sh!tty pipe and some "carb mods" and until i know what those carb mods were... i dont believe it helped it much.

BTW yamaha660r couldnt have said it any better.. the z400 is nice.. just will take some time and cash to get it right...
