It would seem from this article that the YFZ isn't all that much better than the Z400......especially with the price difference.

Here's the link, https://atvconnection.com/atvconnect...0-shootout.cfm

The Z400 is a fine machine, and has unfortunately taken a hit from all the hype over the 450's.

they have different purposes. they're in totally different classes. they're both really great machines, though.

I was wanting to let the ATV Connection editors know that I liked the article. Maybe they will see it here? What I enjoyed was the fact that they tested the quads from the perspective of the average rider. I'm not in the market for the YFZ 450 but I do like to hear real world results that it was just a touch faster than a Z and rode smoother. That is no surprise since it has a bigger, higher performance engine and better shocks. My KXF does just fine, adn I have to have reverse, plus it is nice knowing that if I modded my quad that I would be equal to a YZF 450 in the real world. What is funny to me is that most guys don't uderstand is that what maks for a great "race" quad does not make for a great trail quad. Right now the Z/KXF 400 is the best do it all quad you can buy.

Many trail riders think that they are MX racers. So they have to have the next best thing in a bike.

They will buy a YFZ450 and just assume it's the best quad they ever owned. They don't realize that the Suzuki is way more comfortable and has electric start and reverse.

The YFZ is a better quad to start from in MX, but the Z400 is the better quad if you're going to trail ride.

I spent an afternoon trail riding a friends YFZ. These were tight, rough, mountain trails, most of which are only 50" wide(http://www.bokasmo.com/pages/ohv/cal...whd/index.html). I was so happy to GET OFF THAT THING AND BACK ON THE Z400! The YFZ is one miserable trail ride! And, if you take the nation as a whole, what are most people..........trail riders.

I would however pick the YFZ over the Z for freestyle jumping, MX, and for sure, dunes.

The YFZ450 has electric start too. It's the 450R that doesn't.
