Default Wiggle My Crank

Exactly how do you pull on it?

How can I tell if I need crank bearing bushings done on the Zilla. Previous owner doesnt know if it was ever done. He thinks its on orig. bore, he ringed it once. Not many bolts on the motor have wrench marks on them.
It runs great. I feel no end play on the flywheel when cold. Never tried hot.

Ive been hearing alot about a leak down test. It seems this would be a good starting point. I dont want to split the
cases till I have to.

take the stator cover off and grab the flywheel, using quite a bit of force pull up and push down repetitivly........if you feel any perceptible movement of the crankshaft its time to split the cases.

If it move's side to side more then .010 it bad,if it move's up and down replace the crank bearing's and seal's.

I dont really feel anything, seems solid.

Is it easier to tell if there is any play with the engine hot or cold?

What about the leak-down test.

From what I've been told by a few guy's in here you want to find someone that know's what they're doing, real easy to break or mess up the case's.If you can't move it the with the staotr cover off start the engine, let it warm a bit then rev it up,if you see the staor move in or out then replace the bearing and seal's.That's how I discovered mine were bad.A leak test will let you know if you have a leaky seal. You could also with it running use starting fluid ans spray around the carb intake boot, base of the jug, head gasket, and around the staor.Use short blast's when doing this so you don't soak the area incase of a fire,or use WD-40.The rpm's will change if you have a leak, also do the leak test with quad idoling. As far as a good shop Don Zilla and Duneaddict can point ya in the right direction,Vito did my work, but he no-longer does engine work.

Zuk,

Are you the one that is still on original bosses. Vito machined oil grooves or somthing for better lubrication?
