eiger2. I spliced into the wires going to the headlights, so my aux lights are on the same circuit. Haven't blown a fuse yet but your idea of getting the power from the 12v socket seems like a better choice. I also like your idea of a rear light permanently mounted. I am currently using a small magnetic spotlight with a retractable power cord. My hour meter is mounted under the seat, on the right front side plastic. 2 wires to hook up, one wrapped around the spark plug wire and one to ground. No tach capabilities, just running hours for maintenance intervals. It was around $10 from a tool supply store. I have been thinking of an add-on tach gauge instead of a digital one to incorporate into the body work somehow. Late.

joe.

I wasn't too worried about the load tripping the curcuit but if I hit something or my aux lights go up in smoke I don't want them bringing down the whole system. I've had water in my headlights, just blew a bulb tho. (man, are they expensive!!!!!)

Hi everyone; just picked up my new 04 Eiger from the shop last night. Had asked them to put a fuel filter on it, but as things would go, it never made it on the machine.
Was wondering how critical this is. It is unusual to need a filter, so is this a common problem with Eigers?

Anyhow, i just tried it out up and down the street last night and certainly compared to my Honda 400 it feels like a more powerful and agile machine. Can hardly wait to get it out on the trails.:

I didn't see the problem until around 800 miles or so. That's not to say that the crap wasn't in the carb before then. You can ride it without on, but it is just a little extra precaution. I would install one and clean the carb out good, just in case!

A fuel filter is a really smart idea. I have put them on lawnmowers, etc., but hadn't thought of putting one on the eiger. I went to O'Reilly's and got a clear fuel filter and two hose clamps for about $4. Took me about 5 minutes to put it on. Definitely would recommend it.

As the gas goes down in the tank air is sucked in thru the breather hose and dust can get in that way. A filter should be standard but zuki uses a screen in the carb but that isnt good enough. The problem is when the jet clogs you are out on a trail and have to limp home ar be dragged. The problem usuall pops up when you hit a jump (not a big one!) the stuff in the carb bowl gets shook up and clogs the jet, it is almost instant.

This seems to be a problem with most Eigers. It takes 5 mins to do and less than $4.

OK, What about putting a high flow filter on the air inlet hose to the fuel tank also? Too much restriction? Might help keep h2o out of the tank incase you take it swimming?

Thats a good question. I don't know.

BTW. When I changed my oil the last time I found the same lil black pieces of plastic in my oil that I found in my carb.

So how many miles was that? Was this after the first oil change? The dealer did my first oil change so I don't know if I might have the same problem.
