After tearing my expired 86 LT250R down, ALL the way down, I find that one of the little thrust washers on the wrist pin came apart and peices wedged themselves between the crankshaft and the case. Locked her up tight. Is this a common occurence on these things? Also I noticed (because I had to remove it) it has a counterbalancer. Someone told me before that 85-86 motors didn't have these. This one vibrated pretty bad, is it possible that the counterbalancer was out of time? How is it supposed to be timed? I didnt see any punch marks on the gears (factory markings), but I'm sure it matters.
Also, how the *($&@#$ did those people who made these things get those soft phillips head machine screws so dadgum tight without as much as marking the heads? However, most of the screws were prestripped for my inconvienence. Where's the best place to get replacement screws short of going to the dealer ?
Thanks

You need to check your case halves to make sure that it did not warp them. There will be marks one each gear to line up on your counter shaft and be sure to loctite the nut that hold the gear on because it will come loose. And I use a hand impact driver to get the screws out. Have fun! I have my LT250 R in two boxes,a drain pan and the frame is hanging in the shed. I have to get it put back together in a month or so cause my wife wants to go riding soon!
