Default Z400 New Owner!

Woohoo, I just got myself a purty new '04 Z400 last night. Unfortunately the weather is absolute crap here so I couldn't put it around the house really. First ride is Sunday. Can't wait to break her in!

On another note, I'm thinking of a way to haul it around. I have a ranger, and the bed is two inches too narrow. I can almost get the back tires to rest on the tailgate while loading it but then the front two hit the wheel wells. Hmm...any advice appreciated.

p.s. Normally I only have to transport it short distances, ie to a parking lot or other person's house where I'll then load it onto a trailer.

let me know how you like it. I want to buy one but I need to sell my Sportsman 600 first. Should be a big change for me coming from a utility. I cant wait, good luck.

I already rode my brother's girlfriend's and it's a great bike. I'm still not that great at full clutch, but by the time the bike is broken in I think I'll be in good shape. But I'll let you know as time goes on.

Can't wait to get off work!

I fabricated mini-ramps from the bed floor to the top of the wheelwells on my ranger, so when I ride up the ramp, the front tires roll right over the wells.
Congrats on the Z, you'll have alot of fun on it!

Hey warrior226,
How do you like your hmf slip-on? I have an 03 Z400 and was looking at the hmf slip-on. My buddy has the hmf on his 03 warrior, and if it does for the Z what it did for his warrior, I will definitely get one. How loud is yours? Thanx for the info.

I can't say for the HMF, but my brother's girlfriend got a White Brothers (e-series I believe) slip-on for her bike and it made an enormous difference. The sound is pretty good too. But it made a world of difference, though.

Just drive it in and it will roll right over the fender wells, it's no big deal really. I own a Ranger and a Z also.

The ONLY difference(I am aware of at least)is the rear axle adjustment bolts (the ones used to tighten the chain)2 bolts on the 03 they turned into 1 bolt in 04. I have 3 friends with '03 and '04s have broke them off. Hope they change it next year agin.
