Default Vinson Oil

I'm currently in the process of breaking in my new vinson manual. I am thinking of changing the oil to synthetic mobile 1. The question I have is what do you use? what type of mobile 1 should I use and how much oil does the vinson hold. I read where the vinson held like 3.6 quarts. Should I switch to synthetic oil or just stay with regular oil. any help would be appreciatted.

Use the red capped Mobil 1 15/50. It is the only one that doesn't have the friction modifiers in it. I've been using it in my quads for five years now.

dont use synthetic your riding a manual and the clutch needs friction to grab properly. you will get more slip if you use synthetic oils

I keep hearing that, yet the fifty or so guys I know that run synthetic oil in their manual clutch quads have never had their clutches slip.

Put the synthetic oil in it. As long as you are past the break in period, your machine will thank you.

i would not run 15w 50,

that oil does not have a low enough cold viscocity, and will lead to premature wear, trust me, have seen it happen to a newer explorer, the ran 10w 30 in it, its whole life, fact of the matter is it needed 5w 40, in turn it lost compression at 123,000 and then needed a new motor.

Look in your manual and see what it says for the temperature range you will be running in. You could go with Synthetic but you will only spend more $. Just not necessary or your manual would call for it. If you change your oil and filter on a regular basis you most likely would not notice any difference in the oils. Synthetics may last a short time longer but that just gives them more time to accumulate "trash". Also use a good filter, do not use a Fram from a parts store for sure, go to your dealer and get a OEM filter, believe me there is a difference here that is greater then the difference in the oils. If you would like i could email anyone some pics, that myself and friends from my Sportbike club ,took of the difference in filters for bikes and autos.

zex129, if you are talking Yamaha, I was told that Fram made there OEM filters for them. If that is true then might as well go to the parts store and save 10 bucks. I have been told lots of times to not use Fram. AlaskaBoy.
