Eiger Break-In... Recommendations?
#1
I just bought a 2004 Eiger manual trans. I have about 20 miles on it and am dubious about the dealer's recommendation about 100 miles of "easy" riding before even applying more than 1/2 throttle. Anyone have any bad luck with NOT following that advice? I'd like to test the limits of my new ride, but can't really DO that without more than 1/2 throttle.
What say you, experts?

I've been riding for 35 years and have never seen anyone keep the throttle only half during breakin. The key is not to keep a steady rpm for extended time. Don't let it idle excessively. Don't lug the motor. The nature of the auto trans keeps the rpms in the higher parts of the torque curve no matter the throttle position. the motor you have is the same one as the auto. You don't need to baby it, just don't ride like you stole it.
Welcome to the forum!! Its nice to get new Zuk owners and especially Eiger riders!
The most important thing you can do, and I'm sure the dealer didn't tell you this, is get an in-line fuel filter. You can get em anywhere. Less than $4 and 4 minutes can save you some grief in the future. Go down to the thread "Problems with Eiger CDI" or something like that here on the Zuki forum.
The reason for the half throttle thing is that when you open the throttle it dumps a lot of fuel into the cylinder and the rings aren't seated yet and you may get some blowby (gas in the oil) or the excess pressure will keep the rings fron seating at all.

10-4 on the fuel filter after reading some of the posts here. And can anyone say DUH?? WTF was Suzuki thinking not putting a fuel filter on standard?
Thanks for the welcome. Lot's of good stuff on this Board, glad I found it.
Glad to be an Eiger rider! Can't wait to take it to the Dunes (Oregon). I've taken my Jeep there (now gone, as a condition for getting the Eiger), and I drive my Toyota there. I'm sure the Quad will be tons of fun, too.
On another subject, anyone have any experience on how low a tire pressure I can run without excessive worry of the bead unseating? Low pressure on the Dunes is sooooo important, but at 4.5 PSI anyway, how low can you go?
