umm 2 strokes dont use motor oil they burn two cycle oil. thats the idea they burn the lubrication and have double the power strokes. only oil is gear oil and 2-stroke oil you mix in the gas

Put in 900 ML or CC's (same values) of "BELRAY 80W GearSaver" oil for best results. If it is a 85-86 it has a inspection oil level hole on the lower side cover. The 87-92's have no inspection hole. Change this oil AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN TOLERATE! very inportant for clutch life.

I don't have my manual with me at the moment but, I seem to recall the proper oil to be 10-40 or maybe 20-40 motor oil. I also seem to recall the amount to be 900cc. I don't think your cluch will work very well with GEAR oil. I Highly recommend checking before dumping in any gear oil. I have more than a few cycles/quads both 4 stroke and 2 stroke none of them use gear oil.

I've run regular 20w40 motor oil, 10w40 2 stroke tranny oil, and 80w 2 stroke tranny oil. They all work well as long as they don't have more than a couple of rides on them. The 2 stroke tranny oil is cheap insurance for expensive gears.

You can change your fuel/gas ratio from 20:1 to 32:1 ...ie. 12oz oil to 3 gallon of high test fuel or 4oz to 1 gallon fuel. I run 32:1. Suzuki recomends 20:1 but this is too rich in my opinion. Almost "all" run 32:1 up to and as far as 50:1. Stick with 32:1 for longivity though. Run Klotz Super Techniplate racing oil at 32:1 and you will LOVE the smell...trust me. If you like two strokers, you got to run this oil for the smell and Castor oil properties.

Now as far as the gear oil vs engine oil in your tranny:

Manual states to use SAE 20w-40 engine oil. Your tranny breaks down oil viscosity very quickly because of the friction of the clutch plates and meshing of the tranny gears. Their is alot going on in there. Manual states 900 cc (1.9 U.S. pints just shy of a full quart 32 oz) for a oil change. If you completely disassembled the engine you us 950 cc ( 2.0 U.S. pints or a full quart 32oz's). On the crankcase side cover at fill plug it says 900 ML not CC's. ML and CC are the same or equal the same in liquid volume.
Take a look at this posting:

http://forums.atvconnection.com/mess...y&keyword1=oil

AND this:
http://www.belray.com/consumer/produ...gearsaver.html

This should help you decide which is best for your quad. I asked alot of two stroke specialist about which transmission wet clutch oil/viscosity to use and they all stated Belray Gearsaver 80W.
Hope I was some help.
