Default 01 King Quad need help!!

I know the brakes are a big issue with the king quads... but I have replaced mine on the back for the 2nd time but never getting a good braking. You have to stand on the foot pedal to get the tires to slide and using the hand lever is worthless. Its like you put grease in the drum...or something.

Thanks Scott

Drum brakes and so-so seals, one of the flaws of the old KQ design. You *should* be able to clean out the brakes or replace the pads and get decent braking - at least until some mud & water seeps in, but it's very possible that grit and mud in the brakes have worn your drum down. I had this with my '94 KQ, IIRC, the rear drum was about $250 just for the part.

Here's hoping the new KQ is all discs.

I have replaced the brake pads and cleaned everthing and put it back together. The drum was fine...as far as having a good pedal i do..just like new... but no stopping power. Like the going from power steering to none.

I gave up on the rear brakes and just replaced the front shoes. I, yes I admit it, paid the dealer one time to do it thinking that it would be like new. Ha, the brakes had to be readjusted within a few miles and before the trip was over they was toast. I even asked the dealer why the hand lever felt so mushy and he said it was the best they could do. Never again will I ever allow Suzuki to touch my quad, could be because I sold it , but that is beside the point. I found the shoes with the grooves in them to work the best, for the front that is.

Did you adjust it by the foot pedal? How about pulling the arm off the and taking some of the slack out of it, not much but will make the brakes lock up alittle faster. AlaskaBoy.

It just "flips over"?? All by itself?? Wow, sounds like something out of 'Maximum Overdrive'. Or maybe 'Poltergeist'.
