Either the 38 individuals who have viewed this post are too embarrassed for me to reply or this isn't such a dumb question after all.

The fully automatic tranny is a Dry belt drive CVT like everyone else's. The manual shift with auto clutch is a wet clutch...like everyone else's. You can use synthetic oil in the engine with the fully automatic tranny, but not with the auto clutch.

Default Dumb question

Nobody's (that I've personally seen) technical specs specifically state that you can't use a synthetic oil with the manual transmission. That's heresay and rumor. I used synthetic blend for my first post-breakin oil change and my 65 miles-in-one-day trip at the dunes last Saturday was fine.
I think there's some sort of misconception that synthetic oil is significantly slipperier than 'regular' oil, and that's not entirely true. Synthetic oil's benefit is mostly in thermal viscosity properties and resistance to chemical breakdown. This may start some sort of 'debate' about synthetic vs. conventional, but my personal experience with it is all I need to know. I plan on going to full synthetic after this oil change, I just couldn't afford it this time. $5 bucks a quart is freaking ridiculous. Maybe WalMart has cheaper synthetic??

Anyway, for what it's worth, that's what I've found.

Wally's World has Rotella T 5w40 synthetic for $4.77. The also have Mobil 15w50 for around $4.50. Based on my research neither of these have friction additives that would negatively impact a wet clutch.

Right on. I'd save 22 cents a quart over Autozone!

Oh well, It's still worth the cost.

Not quite everyone else's... Honda has a true fluid driven torque-converter type auto tranny in a few of their models.
I'm sure it's WAY heavy, though, but more reliable I'd imagine.

and my friends gave my a hard time about going with the fully automatic. Even though I had several dirt bikes in my younger days I really like the auto tranny for putting around in the deer woods...but I sure do miss those dirt bikes
