Default 2004 Z400 question

Ive ridden ATV's for a long time and love to go fast and to go through deep mud and streams but always on utility ATVS. I was wandering if the Z400 was able to go through very deep mud and streams etc.. because i have been looking into the sport atv's alot lately thanx

You're obviously not going to get the mudding performance out of a sport that you would from a utility, but with saying that....

I bought my 2004 yellow Z400 around six weeks ago and have been having an absolute blast. I started riding June of last year on my brother's 400 auto eiger. It was a great machine, especially to learn on, but it was not suited for me. I rode the damn thing like it was a sport bike and ended up breaking a few parts here and there in the process (nothing major). Everyone else in our group rides sport. I rode various bikes, kfx 400, 400 ex, from stock to aftermarket with full exhaust systems and etc, and ended up going with the z400. It is an excellent all-around bike. I never have plans of racing, but I have a helluva lotta find on trails. The Z400 is just so damn smooth and comfortable. I rode my brothers 400ex, and in half an hour developed a nasty blister, even though I had already been on my Z all day.

As far as mudding goes, my Z has seen plenty. My second ride, I went with two other Util's to a pretty messy place. I went everywhere they did with no problems, even they were both impressed. absolute blast

I gotta tell ya, you won't regret getting this bike. I'm just beginning to have fun with it.

I was so close to buying a vinson 500 manual, but then decided to wait a couple months. Very glad I did, util's are great, but its sport all the way for me.

The olny problem I have found with mudd is the ruts left by big *** mudd digging quads. The z/kfx/dvx get high centerd easyly.Just like any sport quad.

Mud huh - well they are not bad but not great by any means. As the others have said they do high center a lot quicker than a 4x4. Put a good set of skid plates on and look at new back tires. That will help you in the mud. With the sport quads you have to skim the mud. Use speed and wheel spin to get you through. We used to ride 400ex though some stuff that just admazed us, more than once we said that should not have went through there. The Z seems a wee little bit better in the mud so...
The 400ex is also a great quad and a blast to ride, the Z400 is just a water cooled, reverse added, slightly higher HP 400ex in my opinion. Go find some mud and test a friends bike in it, even if you get stuck it is still a blast!!!

id like to see a sport quad go through 4ft of thick mud. it will never happen. never. unless u could skim on top and not sink.
