HELP. how do i replace rear brakes on vinson??
#1
my brakes have worn out at 400 miles down to metal. i just got a new pair but have no idea how to install them. Please help, im hitting the rough trails this weekend and i NEED good brakes. lots of steep hills. I took off tire, undid two 12mm bolts holding calliper, now what? the small pad fell out into my hand. do i need any other tools? a clamp? do i have to bleed them? i would have the shop do it for me but there backed up 3 weeks. ANY help would make a differance. thanks-

take the wheel off, and then take the 2 12mm bolts out that hold the caliper to the axle, then you are going to need an allen head wrench of the corect mm, i cant remember off the top of my head what # it is, i am doing my breaks this weekend as well. just take those 2 allen bolts out, then the pads will fall right out, to get the new pads in being they are much thicker, you will need to compress the pistons on the caliper, with a plier, so there is enough room to have the new pads fit, and the width of the rotor.

I replaced mine at 800 miles. I used a big pair of channel locks to compress the piston and was able to slide the pad right off the pins and the new one on. It took me less than 20 mins. to do both sides.

I replaced mine before 200 miles. I ride pretty aagressive though. They were nearly in the roter. I wish tyey would have put the brakes in the rear end housing or something where they would be protected from the mud. I haven't replaced my fronts yet.

hey guys i am thinking of replaceing my rear rotor, does gaffler make the wave rotor for a vinson, or ebc/braking, one side of my rear pads were ok the others metal, it looks like it groved it a little, i might be able to put it on the buffing wheel for a little bit, and solve my problem?

thanks guys, i replaced break pads- everything seemed fine but there is no stopping power. i put the new pads on, compressed the piston with a clamp, re-installed the calliper, but the brake handle goes all the way in with little resistance. i feel a slight bit of breaking but almost nothing. any suggestions?? any help is appreciated

Mine took about 10-15 miles and some hard stops before they stared to work like they should. If your foot brake works and the hand brake dosen't than you need to adjust the cable at the lever. Pull back the rubber cover and you'll see the adjustment. If the foot brake dosen't work then you need to bleed them.

proper meathod to break in brakes, accelerate to 30 mph, depress brakes gradually untill you stop, do this about 10x and they will last much longer, i did my brakes, had noooo stopping power, and then did my meathod, whalla, i can lock em so easy i had to take pressure off of the hand brake. i used the new racing brakes from ebc, i think they are called the mxc, or mxr, i cant remember, they run about 40$ but worth it imho.
p.s, i am hooking up a hid system in my vinson, so far i have the headlight pod done, it is very difficult to find any bulb that will fit the 2 side lights, even the big pod took some modification to work, but it is well well worth the reward, the headlight pods beam looks like that of a bmw lighting crisp and clear, i will post some pictures when i am complete.
