Default 1992 King Quad won't start...Help!!!

I was going to due some routine mainenance on my Dad's quad the other day. When I went to start it the starter made a couple of revolutions and went "Klunk". I tried pushing the start button acouple of times and it freed up. So I tried it again and "Klunk". Ok now the motor turns over just fine, but it won't start. I pulled the cam cover off to check the timing, ( i figured mabye i broke a timing chain) thought timing was off. It checked out just fine. Alined the cam gear marks where there suposed to be and evrything looked good. I then checked for spark. great spark. Now the only thing I can think of now is the flywheel sheared the key. Its would still have spark just not at the right time in the cycle. Is this possible? Has anyone heard of this problem? Any ideas? This is my Dad's pride and joy and I sure could use the help. Thanks, Scottyjay

could be... the king uses a CDI (Suzuki "PEI") ignition incorporated in with the magneto. the magneto is also where the starter drive is and is on the crank on a keyway. The spark advance at cranking speed is 5 degrees (To 800 RPM, then to 35 degrees total advance) so you should be able to take out the timing mark plug and put a strobe timing light on the plug wire and see the timing line as you crank it. (Mind you I haven't tried it) If you can't see it at all there may be grief with that key. You might try taking out the plug, turning on the key and partly obstructing the plug hole with a finger. Pull the hand cord fast enough to get a spark and see if it occurs just after the compression puffs past your finger. If its way off then you know you have some screws to turn.
