HELP, LT 230E Upgrades.
Hello board. I'm new here. Looks like a great place! I have a 1987 LT 230E that I want to make some engine upgrades to. I have a Cobra Pipe and a K&N filter on it now. Never rejetted the carb. Has'nt seemed to need it. It's not running hot or pinging and the plug looks good. It must have been fat from the factory. It came stock with a Mikuni VM 24SS carb. Any ideas on jetting for it? I'm thinking of putting in a Wiseco 10.25 to 1 piston and a Webb cam. Probably Webb's milder version. Has anybody used a similar setup? Would there be any benefit of going with the Wiseco without doing the cam change? Anybody else make a performance cam for this model besides Webb? I'm still running the stock 11 & 41 tooth sprockets. I have a 39 tooth ordered. I may try a 12 tooth front later on. Thanks for any input!

The girlfriends was bone stock when she bought it. I put complete Supertrapp exhaust on it, K&N filter and changed the gearing as low as possible (14/38 I think) and it'll yank the front wheels off the ground in 2nd at any speed and it still goes pretty fast. Not much of a hillclimber anymore because the new found power likes to pull the front wheels off the ground on an up hill grade, but its still a good mount for her. Doesnt get competely left in the dust by my Quadracer so I feel its pretty good.
On a side note I did a lap at a makeshift "track" on the 230 against a CR250 and a RM125. I lost, but not as bad as anyone there expected!
No experience with cams however....Id like to add one if she intends to keep the unit.

I think Webb is the only place that makes cams for it, but I'm not sure. With the wild cam you need to have the valves and springs changed. You would notice a difference with just the higher compression piston, but while you are in there you may as well throw in a cam. If not, you will regret it later. You will still be able to run pump gas, but will probably need 93 minimum. Without rejetting you won't get any more power from a k&n and pipe. You'd change the power curve, but with no more fuel, won't make extra power. I'd take it up 2 notches, and see if it skips at WOT. If so back off 1.
