I heard that you can replace the linkage by using an RM shifter and attatch the RM shifter directly onto the shift shaft, also it would shift much better. So try that it would probably be cheaper.

He means from a 2 stroke Suzuki dirtbike RM 80 RM 125 RM 250.Also I learned this trick. When your shifter linkage wears out and is all sloppy pull off the shifter and put a plastic bushing on the shift shaft connected to the footpeg. Also look inside the ends of the linkage and remove the tiny springs. Now go and find a MUCH MUCH stiffer spring.Cut it down to where it will fit inside the housing.Make sure you line it up just the original one. This makes shifting a WHOLE lot easier.

the plastic bushing idea sounds GREAT but it will have to be pretty thin what did you use?
are the springs you are talking about behind the little rubber boots on the end of the linkage?
if so mine are gone completly! where the ball goes into the boot its empty the only thing holding it together is the boot there is no spring behind it

thanks Ray

See I actually drilled out the shifter. The bushing was just a piece of hard round plastic I found.I actually had to grind it down a little too.Yes behind the rubber boot is where I placed the springs.Be sure when you connect the linkage back to the shifter it pops in.Mine is on there so good that I've tried but I couldn't get it off.Makes shifting a WHOLE lot better.

if the only thing holding it on is the rubber boot it should pop off what is holding it on? the idea of the plastic piece on the shifter sounds ok i am going to the sazuki shop today to get a new linkage and then to home depot to get a piece of something to make a sleeve out of to tighten the shifter
