Default Method to the madness ??

Hey Guys !
I'm new to the LT 500, I was just wondering if there was a method to starting the Beast??
My ankle feels like it's been through a grinder !
I know the machine runs cause when I went to go get it the guy started it for me so I know it's not a spark issue or fuel. he kicked it about 3-4 times and it fired right up.
So today I tried to start it and couldn't accomplish anything but breakin a sweat and killin my ankle.
I'm not sure if the choke in the on position is up or down it's the factory carb {never had one before}
do you hold the gas pegged while kickin it over or just goose it before you start for the first time??
I kick it when it's TDC so I'm gettin full stroke.
Right now all the plugs I have to work with are the BR9ES, I know thats pretty cold but it should still fire up.
So I was wondering what method everyone with the LT 500R uses to start there machines so I can give them all a try. It's an '89 all stock never been bored but has had a total top & bottom rebuild over the winter.

Thanks for all your help guys !!
I appreciate it tons !

Starting a zilla is no joke. If it kicks back then you're really in trouble. Motocross boots are highly recommended. The choke is on when it's up.

Try kicking it over a few times easy to prime the cylinder. Take it to TDC with the kicker, push it down a little so you're just past TDC, then give it all you got.

"NEW TOPIC" for I'll tell you cause you did respond to my call.
One of the cylinder bolts is stripped out and is leaking antifreeze out so I need a cheap easy fix,
that will last along time I don't have $5 or $600 to purchase a new cylinder it's still stock form!
