LT 500RK Cylinder Help Needed
#1
Hi guys !
Hey I finally got the Beast to start first kick, now I got a hopefully small easy promblem !
One of the cylinder bolts is stripped out and it's leaking anti freeze out of the hole.
I need to know if I can get this fixed ? If so will the fix last a LONG TIME ??
The motor and entire machine for that matter is still in stock form ! The motor is freshly rebuilt
still stock bore no knocks pings or any foreign noises coming from the motor at all, so is there
a way to fix this without having to shell out a ton of money on a new cylinder??
If so how much should it cost and where can it be performed ??
Thanks guys for your help and input, I appreciate it !
When I heard the bike run before making the deal with my quad it was at night time
and too dark to see the leak, but she is a VERY STRONG RUNNER !! I still think it was worth
the deal ! So let me know what you guys think.
THANK YOU ALL WHO RESPOND !!

Are you talking about one of the cylinder head bolts?? Either way, pretty much anything on that engine can be heli-coiled. I will venture to say they are 8mm x 1 bolts, but its possiable that they are 8mm x .75. The cylinder will have to be removed, and can be done at home if you are a compitant mechanic, if not I would strongly recommend taking it to a local machine shop and having it done. And yes, heli-coils are VERY strong, every bit as strong as the stock threads if they are installed correctly.
God forbid the day you have to remove one.

Thank you for helping me with this problem!
Yes it's the cylinder head bolt, about how much does it cost to have this done?
I am compitant enough to tear it down, I just wasn't sure if it was fixable and if it was
if it was going to be long lasting.
Would any machine shop be able to do this, or do I look for a specific kind of machine shop?
Thank you again for the help !

Considering that the machine shop has that size heli-coil in stock, it shouldnt cost more than about $30 to have it done. Very simple process, but very effective. I would think that any machine shop could do it as it is not complicated at all. If there is a local hot-rod shop in your area you might want to call them as they deal with things of this nature on a daily basis.
