Default exaust valve

saturday did some much needed minor maintainence on my 88 lts50r.
New reeds, muffler packing, air filter, alot of cleaning, and odds and ends.
Two things stumped me,
1. I took off hte pipe so i could spray carb cleaner inand free up the power valve, felt pretty gritty, but i got it moving by hand, could see the linkage in the sight glass, once reassembled and fired up, revved it out, no movement in the glass, and on the other side the setting **** is kinda frozen up, i put a pliars on, didnt wana break it so next week ill look at that. My question is, adjusting **** holding things up, or is it probably soo gunked the cylinder needs to come off?

2. I wanted to polish some stuff like my rims and pipe, bought the pads, the bar clay polish, and went for it, what am i doing wrong, ive seen mirror like results on aluminium, i couldnt even get a minor change? what gives?

3. I put in dual stage boyeson reeds, live in chicago, (for those concerend with altitude) without getting too technical, is rejetting in my future?
my magic 8 ball said "a possibility", so i need some better advice

Thanks guys, always appreciate your help

on your power valve take the 2 crews outta cap and pull it out . clean the cap then lub it with little oil should spin freely while in place without the screws tightened. then put the spring back in it line up groove in cap with spring. now take it and spin it 360 degrees counter clock wise ,put screws in tighten them your done. now pull the window and be sure the linkage is connected . good luck

What color polish did you get? Black is the most harsh, white is the least harsh. Dark red and I think brown are in between.
Also, what pads did you get? Denim and sisal are the harshest and cotton is the least harsh. If the metal is cast, it is best to debur it with sandpaper. Don't be afraid to get down on it. Aluminum will get so hot you will need gloves.

Really oxidized aluminum needs to be sanded down before you can buff it. I had my cylinder off and I removed the power valve to clean it......it was really gunky!!
