I took the whole silencer out just for the preliminary testing, then right behind the Allen head I took a hack saw and cut from there back off and reinstalled the end piece. It sounds exactly the same and has pretty much the same about of flow. But most importantly, it looks stock just in case the sound police start snooping around. I love my new old Eiger more and more!!

If they were to snoop I imagine they would just stick a thin rod in to see if it passes. What is it something like 1/4 or 3/8 can't pass through or yer busted?
I did all the holes in my secondary silencer at 1/4" ..not that it would matter though as it not usfs approved.

Yeah I am not really worried about it I just wanted it to look more like stock. It still has much better flow.

My needle jet finally came in. Installed it along with a 2 step smaller 118 main jet for high elevation. Started right up and took only the slightest choke to keep her running. Idle was abit lean and she popped and stumbled on slight acceleration so I turned her off before she warmed up. Had a little backfire on turning off. So I richened the idle mix 3/4 turn out to about 3 out and tried her again to beautiful results with no stumbling or popping on acceleration or deceleration. Turns out also that when last owner lost that needle jet they adjusted the throttle cable way out on the handle bar thumb screws and upon my fixing things the idle was at about 2k rpm. Had to unfreeze some crud off the threads in order to be able to adjust the thin nut back in. After that I then regained the use of the main idle cable that comes off to the left to turn her way down nice and smooth. Is unbelievable how muffed a machine with less than 300 mi can get in the wrong hands.
Did six 7/8" holes for the airbox mod as well as trimming off the snorkle lip. A good little tip on that job is to use a torch lighter on all the holes to melt any loose shavings. Other mods on my machine so far are the spring clipping and the diy silencer. Runs great down low, will know more once I take it up to mountain elevations this weekend.

How quiet is the Eiger with the secondary muffler?

Maybe quieter by about 5-10 db...maybe more. Not as much as I wanted being it comes out left side of machine at a noisier angle to my left ear and I built it incorrectly. Probably good for not scaring animals up off my right flank as when I am riding slow the engine noise is pretty quiet at slow speed.
Problem with design is that for one the glass pack's stock perf tube has too much surface area with too little holes that block the waves from getting to the matt material and I was also supposed to stick a plug halfway down the perf tube that I installed. The plug for my tubes end is a washer with probably too big a hole as well. Didn't want to chance making backpressure. It looks good painted black and all. Here is a link to the patent for the Silent Rider: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6640927.html

</a>
Best bet is to make it all from scratch using screen or stainless perf for to hold the packing in. I purposely welded my inside tube and washer stuff to where I can easily enough redo it if it didn't work out right. So I probably tinker with it soon enough.

ps- I'll stick a pic up on my signature next few days..

Update: Ran Mt. Shasta in rain storm from 6k' to 8.5k' without a hitch. Used 118 jet, airbox mod, clipped spring mod, DIY secondary silencer (pic in my signature). Felt a tad constrained pulling off than when runnin without that needle jet and the stock 122. Very doable power though with no stumbling or lean popping issues at all. Gave smooth acceleration pattern for slow hunting speed situations but went straight up as needed. Not the power of a Grizzley 660 we also had up there but I am satisfied for now especially with the mpg I got. (approx. 17mpg). The grizz's exhaust was way loud compared to mine.

Hey Chuck, even gave ride to a warm passenger: http://i202.photobucket.com/al...ses/Shasta4x3low-2.jpg (aka-newest resident of my freezer)

Thanks for posting your findings and what elevation you're riding at... alot of people don't post that information and just say you need to run xxx jet.

I put a 118 in my Eiger while my wife's has a 115. I don't think you can go wrong with either jets at 6-10k feet. My machine used to feel stronger than hers at our house (5.5k feet) especially when it was cold outside until I put the new tires on and hung a winch off the front. I think the extra weight and rotating mass has slowed it down a little. But it has foiled the plug once at higher elevation so I might just go back to the 115.

Sounds like you've found the sweet spot for your mods!

That's fantastic Cowboy!!! Nice buck, nine point? Glad to hear that your Eiger did well too. Couldn't ask for any more than that!

Congratulations.

Thanx Chuck.. out west on muley and blacktail we don't count every point and we disregard eyeguards. If both side are even we would call that buck a 4 pointer but since it isn't we would call it a 4x3..You probably know that, just clarifying for others.By eastern standard he be an 8pointer as it's got one little eyeguard. Pretty small deer though only like 90 lb gutted out...had more meat off some my forked horn deer. I've carried similar size deer a few mile out of high country before on my back. Am a tad older and out of shape now though. Luckily my bro was with me and we didn't have far to drag to get to quad trail...Probably some places with less suitable feed this years deer be a 3 pointer.
