Default Lt250r questions

Hey, i have a few questions about the lt250r that a friend of mine is selling and i am thinking of buying it but dont know much about the lt250r. Its an 85 and is stock and he hasent riden it much, was there any problems with the 85s compaired to the newer moddels, and how do they fair up to the newer ones are they as fast, reliable. And what is a lt250r like on a mx track, any other information would be great if you can think about it.

i have a 85 and its pretty quick . one thing ive noticed is aftermarket parts are harder to find for the 85 -86 than the 87-92 , plus i think the newer ones had 6 gears but im not 100% sure.

new ones had the 6spd, 87on, and they also put a power valve on the later lt motors

The 85-86 had a different engine than the 87 and up. They also had shorter front shocks and are 1" narrower. The 85's also had a 32mm carb and the 86 and up had a 34mm. The 85-86 engine is not bad but it doesn't have the upgrade potential or aftermarket support of the newer powervalve engine. The older engine, however, is quite reliable and makes very respectable power.

well, like most generations of motors, of coarse, the newer the machine, the more bugs are worked out. 87 and up are the best years because suzuki worked out all the bugs there was in the 86 and down. I have a 86, which is fine to me, and just with a few parts you'll be going faster than 65 mph. I got a few things done to my suspension and new sprockets and i can go around as fast as the 87's. i have never raced them, so i would not know for mx tracks, seems they would be fine. How much is the person your buying from asking for it?

Oh and i forgot will this machine be able to take some good jumping and organized mx racing, because of the weaker frame and the swingarm problems.
